You can put in an enchanted item and DISenchant it by placing it in the grindstone. You will get a significant amount of EXP that varies with the level and number of enchantments the item has.

Typically, I’m fish farming for powerful enchantments and tools. The bows that I no longer need can be disenchanted for a quick XP boost towards enchanting and repairing tools I do need.
This also makes enchanted books a useful source of regular books. Also, the experience is great for repairing items with Mending on them.
What is a grindstone in Minecraft, and how does it work?
A grindstone, in particular, a Quartz Grindstone, is an object available in the Applied Energistics 2 mod for Minecraft. You build one by arranging the following items in the crafting grid:
- Top corners & centre: Smooth stone (cooked cobblestone)
- Bottom corners: Cobblestone
- Left, right, and bottom sides: Certus Quartz Crystal, Charged Certus Quartz Crystal, or Nether Quartz
- Top side: Wooden gear
(The wooden gear is a BuildCraft item. It can be created by placing four wooden sticks in the crafting grid in a diamond pattern.)
When placed, the grindstone will also require a Crank Handle. Build this by arranging five wooden sticks in the crafting grid in an “L” shape, with the point of the “L” pointing to the top right.
Place the grindstone as normal, then hold down Shift as you place the crank handle on top of it.
To operate it, put a piece of Ore inside it, then hold down the right mouse button on the crank handle. Approximately eight turns of the crank handle are required to process one block of Ore.
The result will be either one or two piles of metal dust, each of which can be smelted to make an ingot. So, the grindstone is a simple way of enhancing your yield of metal from the Ore you mine.
As you build up your technology, there are similar objects in other mods that can be used to enhance your Ore yield more reliably:
- The Crusher from the Metallurgy 4 mod
- The Macerator from the IndustrialCraft 2 mod (and you can squeeze even more out by using the Ore Washing Plant and the Thermal Centrifuge, later)
- The Pulverizer from the Thermal Expansion mod

Grindstones are naturally generated in villages at weaponsmith shops. However, they can also be crafted using 2 wood planks, 2 sticks, and a stone slab.
The grindstone can combine 2 damaged items to form 1 repaired one and returns experience if any items have enchantments on them. However, the enchantment(s) will only be recovered if this is done.
They can also be used to make stupid things.
How do I repair a Minecraft grindstone?
The ability to repair a grindstone has yet to be in the game. However, it is useful to use it when recovering extra XP points and then later used to Enchant other items and weapons.
I suggest keeping to using it only for disenchantment on lower-rarity ore weapons, such as Wood, Stone and even Iron (Gold, too, if you have an overabundance of it.
Rather, use Gold to create Golden Apples, which are useful in almost every situation, from avoiding dying by falling into Lava or fighting off Pillager Raids to exploring the Nether and even defeating the End.)

Someone was disenchanting items without using a book or grindstone in Minecraft. How did they do it?
There are a few possibilities:
- They tricked you and used a grindstone.
- They tricked you and had items of the same type in their inventory.
- They were in Creative Mode.
- They were cheating or using mods.
- They were on a server with plugins that allow this.
Is the fire aspect enchantment worth it in Minecraft?
I’m not too big on it myself. The fire only benefits a little of what I do with a sword right now, which is gather XP, and it does not add much damage to the target. And if the target stays on fire too long before dying, I won’t get the XP for the kill.
On the flip side, I don’t have to cook my salmon before I eat it, and zombies can be dropped with two hits while I still get credit for the kill, which is important for loot and XP.
Number one drawback? Getting set on fire by the mob you just set on fire. Some players will prefer Knockback as a result, but I find it hard to keep dealing damage when they’re sent well beyond my attacking range.
Also, I want them with skull heads, and I need a farm. The worst feeling is knocking a wither skeleton into the lava pool below by mistake.
Oh, and anything hit by the sweep instead of the blade isn’t set on fire.
How can I combine high-level enchantments in Minecraft?
If you have a high-level book (let’s say Looting III, for example), you can apply it to the desired weapon using an anvil. This process can be repeated multiple times to get a powerful tool with high-level enchantments.
Keep in mind two things, though: i)You will need a LOT of XP to do this, so get as much as you can. and ii)You cannot apply two similar enchantments on the same weapon (for example, a bow cannot have Infinity AND Flame.)
What is the most useless enchantment in Minecraft?
There isn’t one specific enchantment that is useless. It’s rather what you want your enchanted tool to be. Both Curse of Vanishing can be annoying, as well as Curse of Binding. But If you have a super valuable item, and you’d rather delete it than have it in your enemy’s hands, then it would, obviously, disappear.
The enchantment I use the least is Mending. I know, I know- It’s like Unbreaking 3 but better. It’s just too much of a hassle to get, and I’d rather mine 3 more diamonds for a new pickaxe than traverse the world until I find Mending.
Is the blast protection enchantment worth it in Minecraft?
In the mid-game, it could help you in rouge creeper attacks, but that is quite rare, so save your EXP for later enchantments or get protection.
In the late game, Yeah, it is worth it since you will be going to the Nether and ghasts are a thing, too, so yes, get the blast protection then, but still, I don’t recommend it.

Is the riptide enchantment worth it in Minecraft?
If you have an elytra and rockets, then it’s useless since you can use that to propel yourself rather than the trident.
One benefit of the Riptide trident is that you can use it whilst wearing armour. Still, if you have port 4 diamond armour for your other armour pieces, then it should be fine for single-player survival. If you’re on multiplayer and doing PVP, use the riptide trident since you will want the extra armour.
How do item sorters work in Minecraft?
3 types of sorters come to mind. First, the most basic one deals with items being only able to stack with the same item. So, if you fill a chest with a single item in each slot and run a hopper over the top, only that item will go into the chest.
The downside is you have to use the item in question as the filter; for a single chest, you’d need 27 diamonds (1 in every slot) if you want to sort out only diamonds. However, most people would sort a number of different items if one item was sparse.
You can’t expand this inventory space with this method either, and you’ll have to make another chest with 27 27-item filters, 27 items you could put to better use.
Second, To get around these flaws, we use comparators. For every block that has an inventory (hopper, chest, Dropper, etc.), a comparator gives off a different redstone signal strength depending on how full it is.
It depends on the size of the inventory (hoppers have 5, droppers 9, for example) and the stack size; however, full stacks of 16 versus a full stack of 64 gives off the same signal strength only when you are dealing with fractions of those 15/16 or 63/64 items you’ll see different signals.
The basic sorter that is used nowadays has two hoppers stacked on top of each other, with the top hopper with a comparator coming out of it and holding the filter item (x) in the first slot and 18 filler items for the other 4 slots (x) 15 1 1 1 (other 18 items can be anything, usually junk).
The bottom hopper is powered by a torch that prevents it from grabbing items from above (acting like a valve) Allowing us to put other blocks in the other 4 slots in the top hopper.
Increasing the output signal strength that we need
In this configuration (with 18 filler items and 1 filter), the comparator coming off the top hopper is already giving off a redstone signal strength of 2; however, if one more item is added to the top hopper, it would have a signal of 3.
This single extra signal length activates a redstone torch for a second, allowing a single item to drop through to the bottom hopper, and since hoppers only drop items in the furthest left slot with an item, only our filter item drops.
The plus side to this is you only need 1 item to filter into an infinite amount of chests.
Third way, in olden times before Hoppers, we couldn’t really sort most items, but we could sort mobs into separate killing chambers, which worked to some degree.
How are crosses generated in Minecraft?
Minecraft generates each world through a complex procedural algorithm based on a “seed” number. Most of the terrain’s shape is extrapolated from Perlin noise mathematically.
Occasionally (albeit rarely), this will result in terrain that looks like a one-meter, cross-shaped hole in the ground or wall.
A semi-popular urban legend states that the game’s developers intentionally programmed the placement of these crosses.
Still, the game’s source code has been decompiled many times by “modders” (those who add unofficial content to the game), and no such code exists; any cross-shaped feature of the generated terrain is purely coincidental.

How does the fortune enchantment work in Minecraft?
The Fortune enchantment increases the block drops from mining. For example, with the Fortune enchantment, you will have a better chance of getting flint from gravel, an apple from a tree or resources from an ore.
You can add the Fortune enchantment to any pickaxe, shovel or axe using an enchantment table, anvil, or commands. Then, use the enchanted tool to mine and see just how many blocks are dropped!
The maximum level for the Fortune enchantment is Level 3. This means that you can enchant an item with up to Fortune III. The higher the level, the more powerful the enchantment.
Fortune isn’t compatible with Silk Touch.
